20,000 vines per HA in this Smaller grapes, smaller bunches as ever with this sort of intense planting. The result is more acidity, more sugar, everything intensifies. Olivier then leaves this on the lees for 18 months, the result is impressive. Raising this way above it's Village level quality. Saline, savoury feel. But then more drive too. This is deeper, firmer, more precise than the regular bottling. Impressive fruit brawn, but more intense, more compacted citrus, lemony peel and juicy acidity. Good and clever stuff. L&S (Oct 2017)

The 2016 Puligny-Montrachet Les Tremblots Haute Densité from Domaine Hubert Lamy rivets you to the spot with intense lemon, crushed stone and subtle spicy notes, leaping from the glass with vim and vigour. The palate is beautifully balanced, achingly young, sharp and brilliantly defined on the finish. Broaching this now, you feel like you are only on the first pages of a gripping novel. Superb. (from a vine density of 22,000 vines/ha). This is aromatically similar to the regular cuvée with perhaps just a touch more prominent floral component. The similarities end there however as there is more interesting texture to the firmer and denser flavors that brim with dry extract on the saline, chiseled and bone dry finish. The 2016 Puligny Montrachet Les Tremblots Haut Densité was backward on the nose despite coaxing. The palate is much more responsive with green apple and oyster shell notes, a strong marine influence at play here with a tangy saline finish that will keep you coming back for more. Domaine Hubert Lamy

Olivier Lamy has built on the solid foundations his father Hubert prepared with twenty years and more of work in the vineyards. Today the Domaine has 18.5 hectares of vines - 80% are Chardonnay and 20% Pinot Noir. The vines are in several appellations - Saint-Aubin, Puligny-Montrachet, Chassagne-Montrachet and Santenay, as well as the excellent Bourgogne Blanc. The reputation of the domaine is now made, but the Saint Aubins, both red and white, remain some of the bargains of Côte d'Or, and challenge the supposed superiority of the grander village names on a regular basis, both in terms of young and mature wines.

Olivier's wine-making style and preference is to emphasise the fresh and the mineral side of his wines, and there is very little new wood in this cellar, with many wines with no new wood at all, and that is with the wines in 600 litre demi-muids rather that the classic Burgundy (225 litre) fût. Certainly Oliver's whites do have an arrow-like purity and intensity, and seem to age completely straight and true.

The reds are worth more than a casual mention too. Olivier has been getting some consultation help from Sylvain Pataille, and the wines have energy and bounce along with the supple tannins and ripeness.
