(worked entirely by hand as the vineyard has a 40% slope which ensures that it receives plenty of sun). An admirably pure and cool array exhibits distilled notes of green apple, citrus and white floral nuances. There is good mid-palate density to the rich and relatively round flavors that exude both salinity and minerality on the long if ever-so-slightly less complex finale. Lightly smoky on the nose – the three Lamy 2016s at Goedhuis are so different! This is the most exotic and rewarding. Broad and tense. Drinking range: 2019 - 2027 Rating: 17 Jancis Robinson OBE MW - www.JancisRobinson.com (Feb 2018)

Lamy’s wines are sold across a wide range of merchants, but the price at L&S for 2016 Saint-Aubin, 1er Cru Clos de la Chatenière, Domaine Hubert Lamy makes it a must buy here. This is one of the elite Saint-Aubins and in 2016 it is more forward than in both 2014 and 2015 and this makes it a worthy rival to some of the over-priced and under-performing Chassagnes and Pulignys in this vintage. The 2016 Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Clos de la Chatenière, which originates from a parcel with a more southerly exposure compared to others farmed by Olivier Lamy, has a clean and precise bouquet with white peach, orange pith and subtle aniseed scents. The palate is very well balanced with more depth and fruit intensity than the Les Frionnes, touches of tangerine and white peach laced with bitter lemon, leading to a harmonious and quite long finish. Excellent. Drinking range: 2019 - 2029 Rating: 90-92 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Dec 2017)

Domaine Hubert Lamy

Olivier Lamy has built on the solid foundations his father Hubert prepared with twenty years and more of work in the vineyards. Today the Domaine has 18.5 hectares of vines - 80% are Chardonnay and 20% Pinot Noir. The vines are in several appellations - Saint-Aubin, Puligny-Montrachet, Chassagne-Montrachet and Santenay, as well as the excellent Bourgogne Blanc. The reputation of the domaine is now made, but the Saint Aubins, both red and white, remain some of the bargains of Côte d'Or, and challenge the supposed superiority of the grander village names on a regular basis, both in terms of young and mature wines.

Olivier's wine-making style and preference is to emphasise the fresh and the mineral side of his wines, and there is very little new wood in this cellar, with many wines with no new wood at all, and that is with the wines in 600 litre demi-muids rather that the classic Burgundy (225 litre) fût. Certainly Oliver's whites do have an arrow-like purity and intensity, and seem to age completely straight and true.

The reds are worth more than a casual mention too. Olivier has been getting some consultation help from Sylvain Pataille, and the wines have energy and bounce along with the supple tannins and ripeness.
