The wine is aged 22 months in 73% new French oak. 2016 was a cool vintage that was poor for volume but very good for quality. Lots of primary red fruit on the nose. A little whiff of green pepper too. Very inviting. Intensity and concentration on the palate, the oak is not overdone - lots of attractive sweet fruit, some mineral grip and bright acidity. This wine has an 'old world' feel to it with the best of Chile thrown in. Drinking range: 2022 - 2035 Rating: 94 L&S (Sept 2018)

The 2016 Seña is a graceful representation of the challenges presented from a cool year that also experienced record rainfall of 79mm in mid-April. A blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Malbec, 12% Petit Verdot, 8% Carménère and 5% Cabernet Franc, it was aged for 22 months in 73% new barrels, 12% in foudres. The restrained, elegant nose offers blackcurrant and fruit with delicate hints of sour cherry, spice and herbs. It’s juicy in the mouth with an energy grounded in the attractive freshness, finely grained tannins and depth of flavor. A ripe, complex nose of cassis and raspberry jam with sweet spices from the ageing. Fresh and juicy on the palate with a taut texture of firm, precise tannins and a bold, lengthy finish.
