VIÑEDO CHADWICK

2016

Grapes Cab Sauv
Colour Red
Origin Chile, Maipo
ABV 13.5%

The blue fruit and dark berry aromas are so attractive and catching. Black licorice and blackberry notes. Full body, chewy yet polished tannins. I like the way the wine rolls over the tongue. Beautiful finish. One of the most structured Viñedo Chadwicks ever. A great bottle. Needs four to five years to soften. Rating: 99 James Suckling, www.jamessuckling.com (Mar 2018)

97% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Petit Verdot. 22 months in French oak (80% new). This vintage was substantially cooler than 2015 - the harvest was more than two weeks later. You feel that in the wine's aromatic freshness and elegant weight. The nose is full of zippy red and black fruit, with a lick of green pepper. The entry is very slick indeed and the rich dark fruit is framed by new oak sweetness and spice. Some forest floor too. The energy and tension builds in the cheeks - there is excellent balance between weight and acidity. This is an excellent Viñedo Chadwick that should develop nicely over two the next two decades. Drinking range: 2022 - 2040 Rating: 95 L&S (Sept 2018)

Viñedo Chadwick

Viñedo Chadwick was the passion project of Alfonso Chadwick Errázuriz, who bought the 300-hectare Viña San José de Tocornal estate in 1942 to pursue his love of wine and polo. His son Eduardo Chadwick, recognised the potential of this unique terroir and convinced his father to convert his beloved polo field into vineyards. In 1992 it was planted to Cabernet Sauvignon and Viñedo Chadwick was created to honour the memory of the late Don Alfonso Chadwick Errázuriz with an Ultra Premium red wine.

Located in the hills of the Alto Maipo Valley, at 650m above sea level Viñedo Chadwick is managed using sustainable farming practices. The cool morning breezes blowing down from the mountains, row orientation and moderate daytime temperatures allow the grapes to ripen to perfection while preserving their fruit intensity and acidity.

Since its inaugural release, Viñedo Chadwick has consistently received high praise and recognition, including being Robert Parker’s highest-rated Cabernet Sauvignon from Chile for five consecutive vintages and coming first in the famous 2004 Berlin tasting. The wine shows generous aromas of blueberry and dark cherry, licorice and bitter chocolate. Fine-grained tannins and depth ensure that this elegant wine will age beautifully for many years to come.
