BOURGOGNE CUVÉE SELECTION

2017 Domaine Paul et Marie Jacqueson

Grapes Chardonnay
Colour White
Origin France, Burgundy
District Côte Chalonnaise
ABV 13%

Always a brilliantly put together wine the 2017 does not disappoint. The grapes for this come from vineyards in Pierreclos a top spot in the Maconnais. This spends 12 months in barrels - from 1 year to 5 years old. There is good perk and pep. A sleek feel but pithy flavour. Round and ample in the mouth. This has green fruit nibs. Lime and then a richer creamier side. Some honey almost. Nice texture very polished and there is a good lift form some nicely crunchy acidity. But this is not too pert, in fact it has just the right lift to keep it very drinkable.. Drinking range: 2019 - 2025 L&S (Nov 2018)

Very juicy, lifted, lime-flavoured fruit. Just very slightly soft on the end but with a lot of immediate delivery for the money. GV Drinking range: 2018 - 2021 Rating: 16- Jancis Robinson OBE MW - www.JancisRobinson.com (Jan 2019)

The 2017 Bourgogne Cuvée Sélection has a simple bouquet that needs to develop a little more vigor. The palate is fresh on the entry, featuring apple peeling and pear notes and a dab of salinity on the finish, and displaying admirable precision for its level. Fine. Drinking range: 2019 - 2023 Rating: 86 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Jan 2019)

P & M Jacqueson

The domaine was founded in 1946 by Henri Jacqueson and passed to his son Paul. Marie joined her father in 2006 and since 2015 she and her brother Pierre run the estate, now known simply as P&M Jacqueson. The domaine consists of 18 hectares of vines, mostly in Rully, but also 5 in Mercurey and some in Bouzeron. The team also tend vines owned by their neighbours and make some beautiful wines from other peoples' fruit that they themselves have worked all year.

Traditional methods meticulously applied inspire everything they do: the grapes are harvested by hand and vinified in classical fashion, before an élevage in barrel (up to 25% new wood for the reds, just 20% for the 1er Cru Whites). The domaine has become adept at a sophisticated use of barrels, the élevage here is key to the quality they consistently achieve.
