The 2017 Chassagne-Montrachet Embazées 1er Cru was bottled in August 2018. It has an appealing bouquet that needs a little coaxing from the glass, but eventually it offers hazelnut and hints of almond, and a touch of lemon peel emerges with time. The palate is well balanced, with a fine bead of acidity, a little fatness in the mouth and a saline finish that might deceive you into thinking more Puligny. Very fine. Drinking range: 2021 - 2033 Rating: 92 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Jan 2019)

Pale fresh colour, this has excellent intensity, starts lean but then really opens out, blossoming softly with plenty of oak too. However the fruit continues very well at the finish. Rating: 91 Jasper Morris - Inside Burgundy  (Nov 2018)

Slightly hazy pale yellow with a green tinge. Very sexy scents of ripe pear and peach, lime, anise, fresh herbs and white flowers, complicated by a leesy quality. Plush and fine-grained but not at all heavy on the palate, with its fruit flavors of white peach and lime enlivened by fresh acidity and dusty minerality. Finishes graceful and persistent, with a brisk note of lime ice. This wine offers the best balance of texture, acidity, fresh fruit and minerality among the Drouhin 2017s to this point. Véronique Drouhin noted that this wine had been stirred recently, but there's no lack of clarity today. Rating: 91-93 Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar (Sept 2018)

Joseph Drouhin

Despite the size of their vineyard holding, not all Drouhin's wines come from their own domaine, but most of the other wines do come from long-term contracts, such as exists with the Marquis de Laguiche wines. In all but name these wines are 'Domaine' wines, and the vineyards are cared for and the wines vinified with exactly the same care.
