The 2017 Clauzet has a conservative blackberry and tobacco-scented bouquet that feels clean and precise. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit that tightly grip the mouth, although the finish lacks the precision of top drawer Saint-Estèphes. Baron Velge has just sold this estate, after twenty years of ownership, to Jacky Lorenzetti of Lilian Ladouys (he has kept Château de Côme). His final vintage here delivers a straightforward and enjoyable wine that has sweet, dark fruit and plenty of attractive aromatics upfront.
