Some meat on the nose. The juicy fruit is matched by mineral and green hedgerow flavours which gives it a linear feel. Crisp acidity and fine grippy tannins. This will hopefully fill out in time. Rating: 86 L&S (Apr 2018)

The 2017 Paloumey has a perfumed bouquet with red berry fruit, rose petal, liquorice and a touch of allspice. The palate is medium-bodied with firm, slightly dry tannin. It feels fresh in the mouth even if the 2015 and 2016 showed more finesse at this same stage. Drinking range: 2020 - 2027 Rating: 88-96 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (May 2018)
55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc. Very dark, almost black at the core. Refined dusty dark fruit on the nose, the sort of restraint for which Bordeaux is known. Restrained but still fragrant. Dry, chewy tannins, firm but smooth texture and lovely freshness to lift the fruit. Long, too. Embryonic but promising. The 2017 Paloumey is medium to deep garnet-purple in color and scented of red currant jelly and blackberry preserves with touches of spice box and dried flowers.
