Yum. So pretty. A great cocktail of nicely ripe berries some bluer notes too and a crisper feel. Very soft and so sleek - not shiny and polished but a lovely powdery feel. Just a whisper of delicate minerality on the finish. Classy Grand Cru Pinot Noir. Very special. Drinking range: 2022 - 2030 L&S (Nov 2018)

(from a .76 ha parcel, which is about 30% of the total climat). An even spicier nose reflects riper aromas of plum liqueur, violet, sandalwood and a touch of anise, all of which is trimmed in an application of oak. There is notably more volume to the rich and caressing middle weight flavors that exhibit good muscle on the dusty and moderately serious finish that offers better persistence on the more structured finish that displays a hint of dryness that my predicted range assumes will eventually dissipate. Drinking range: 2027 - Rating: 90-92 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jan 2019)

The 2017 Echezeaux Grand Cru offers up aromas of sweet fruit compote, smoky plums, dark chocolate and licorice. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, satiny and expansive, with melting tannins, a succulent core of fruit and a fragrant finish. Structurally giving and open-knit, it will charm in its youth. Rating: 90-92 William Kelley, The Wine Advocate (Jan 2019)

The 2017 Echézeaux Grand Cru has a bright bouquet of red cherry and crushed strawberry with hints of peony filtering through with time - not powerful, but precise. The medium-bodied palate shows slightly grainy tannin and moderate weight. Very elegant and approachable in style, with a touch of white pepper furnishing the finish. One of the earlier-drinking Echézeaux, but delightful. Drinking range: 2020 - 2035 Rating: 91-93 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Jan 2019)

Domaine Anne Gros

Anne Gros joined her father François at the family domaine in Vosne Romanée in 1988, having given up her arts studies in favour of viticulture and oenology at Beaune and Dijon, and has run the domaine alone since 1995. The Domaine now has 6.5 hectares of Pinot and Chardonnay. Anne describes herself as being 'wary of certainties and keen to preserve her freedom'.

In the vineyards Anne practises viticulture influenced by organic and biodynamic principles, and the vineyards are ploughed and fertilised with compost, but although she believes that the long-term health of the vineyards are best preserved by such methods, she likes to maintain the freedom to use conventional treatments when necessary.

In the cellar, the wines are classically made, in cement tanks for the reds, and stainless steel for the whites. They are then are aged in barrel for up to fifteen months, with 80% new wood for the grand crus, 50% for the village wines and 30% for the regional wines. Anne is quietly meticulous and almost obsessive about cleanliness in her cellar, which perhaps is reflected in the delicacy and restrained tension in her wines, which have aromatic clarity, limpid precision, sheer joie de vivre, lively balance and persistence.
