Loïc opened up the tasting with this fabulous wine, as ever the tasting in this cellar takes you to another realm. The Vieilles Vignes comes from 30 to 50 year old vines. Wow. Immediately the palate is rocked by great power. A purity to the fruit is lovely. with lots of carefully ripened, cherry-edged red fruit. Nicely concentrated but there is an openness here that is specific to the vintage. A joyous bounce of red-fruited energy drives through the middle. It is more supple than some, but so joyful. A wondrous opener here. Drinking range: 2022 - 2029 L&S (Nov 2018)

(vinified with 20% whole cluster). A top note of herbal tea sits atop the pretty aromas of dark berry, floral and a whiff of humus that is very Gevrey in character. The sleek, intense and well-detailed middle weight flavors are not as dense as they usually are but they possess lovely depth and persistence on the somewhat austere bitter cherry pit-inflected finish. Very spicy and dark. Lots of peppery spice on the nose and a sort of wild fruit character. Chewy on the palate, with wild cherry flavours. Dense and packed with fruit but has complementary freshness. Domaine Dugat-Py
Domaine Dugat-Py, along with only DRC, Roumier, Rousseau and Leroy, is rated in the top Three Star category by the 'Classement' published by the Revue du Vin de France. These are the essence of robust Burgundy, wines of huge scale and concentration. Patience is required, so lay down a few grand bottles for your dotage.
