CORTON RENARDES

The 2018 Corton-Renardes Grand Cru has an open, generous, lively and quite seductive nose, with red cherries, crushed strawberry and subtle marmalade scents. The palate is medium-bodied with fleshy, bold tannins that frame the layered red fruit commingling with orange rind, white pepper and marmalade. There is a slight graininess to the texture that I personally like. The more I am acquainted with this Corton, the more I warm to its personality with its almost Sauternes-like texture. (40% whole cluster but without the central stem). A very ripe nose of liqueur-like black pinot fruit is laced with notes of the sauvage, spice and floral wisps. The equally rich, indeed even creamy, medium-bodied flavors exude a subtle minerality on the slightly lean but not necessarily short finish. The 2018 Corton-Renardes Grand Cru contains 40% whole cluster and shows more delineation than the Charmes-Chambertin on the nose, touches of marmalade and orange peel complementing the red berry fruit. The medium-bodied palate offers succulent, ripe red fruit. Quite spicy toward the finish, with clove and black pepper notes lingering on the aftertaste.
