Just next to Évocelles - and the two wines do share some characteristics - this one just more of everything. Big and firm. The tightest packed of the lot from Loïc this year. Intense and dark fruit picks up with energy and soft, red fruits with zippy cherry skin too. Completely delicious and completely 'complete'. Such delicate, fine tannins you do not really notice them - but there is good power and persistence here. All is in harmony but with a really assured feel. Confident and brilliant. L&S (Nov 2019)

Here the more expressive and sauvage-inflected nose is quite floral and high-toned with its mélange of liqueur-like red currant, pomegranate and soft earth scents. Once again there is excellent mid-palate density to the sleek, intense and powerful flavors that flash fine detail and minerality on the mildly austere, complex and strikingly long finish. This is a classic Champeaux of power and grace though one that is also clearly constructed to age for years. Drinking range: 2036 - Rating: 93 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jan 2021)

Aromas of wild berries, cherries, sweet spices and petals introduce the 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Champeaux, a medium to full-bodied, lively and muscular wine that's deep and concentrated, built around bright acids and an elegantly muscular chassis of tannins. Seamless and complete, this is beautifully balanced for the long haul. Drinking range: 2028 - 2058 Rating: 94 William Kelley, The Wine Advocate (Jan 2021)

The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Champeaux is a beautiful wine in the making, unfurling in the glass with aromas of cassis and smoky dark berries that mingle with notions of grilled squab, licorice and rich loamy soil. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, fleshy and elegantly muscular, with an ample and concentrated core framed by powdery tannins and lively acids. Fermented with 60% whole cluster, this is another cuvée that was formerly matured entirely in new barrels but saw only 66% new oak this year. Produced from very old vines, the Champeaux was often purchased by Maison Leroy in the days before the Dugat family began domaine bottling. Rating: 92-94+ William Kelley, The Wine Advocate (Jan 2020)

Domaine Dugat-Py

Domaine Dugat-Py, along with only DRC, Roumier, Rousseau and Leroy, is rated in the top Three Star category by the 'Classement' published by the Revue du Vin de France. These are the essence of robust Burgundy, wines of huge scale and concentration. Patience is required, so lay down a few grand bottles for your dotage.
