Relatively restrained nose and it's not giving much away on the palate either, but the weight and the phenolic density is there, and it's long with building flavour. L&S (Oct 2019)

The 2018 Meursault Poruzots 1er Cru has just a little too much reduction on the nose for my liking, obscuring the terroir profile for the time being. The palate is well balanced with decent weight. This is not the most complex in this flight but with attractive, slightly tangy orange rind and quince notes towards the finish. There is something a little conservative about this, maybe it has something up its sleeve for later? When I discover the producer...I think it does. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 white tasting. Drinking range: 2024 - 2040 Rating: 90+ Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Nov 2022)

A ripe, attractively fresh and well-layered nose offers up notes of various white orchard fruit that includes a hint of melon, acacia blossom and lemon zest that are trimmed in just enough wood to notice. There is a really lovely mouthfeel to the punchy and reasonably concentrated medium-bodied flavors that possess evident power before terminating in a saline, succulent and mineral-inflected finish. Drinking range: 2025 - Rating: 90-92 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jun 2020)

Aromas of peach, pear and orange oil mingle with nuances of clear honey and fresh pastry in an expressive bouquet, introducing the 2018 Meursault 1er Cru Poruzots, a medium to full-bodied, layered and textural wine that's concentrated and lively but deceptively enveloping, concluding with a mineral finish. Rating: 92-94 William Kelley, The Wine Advocate (Jan 2020)

Domaine Henri Germain

Jean-François Germain was joined in 2018 by his daughter Lucie - who is now helping to run this small (7ha) domaine.

The Chassagne vineyards came through his mother, a Pillot, and Jean-François is married to François Jobard's daughter, so they are quite intertwined with some of our other producers. The Poruzots comes from the rows next to Remi Jobard's. In terms of winemaking the Germains are always happy to let nature take its course, and in the vineyards they follow as natural a system of viticulture as possible (organic, not certified).

These are concentrated, tightly wound wines from one of Burgundy's coldest cellars. Alcoholic fermentations can take months and the malolactics are often late, so they have always gone for long élevage in old barrels, always for two winters, and the Premiers Crus usually for 22 months. Slow to develop, they show wonderful crystalline purity. New wood is used very sparingly, just to replace barrels sold when they get to ten years old.
