Colour Red

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2019 Fourcas-Dupre charges out of the gate with bold, expressive scents of baked blueberries, crushed black plums and cassis with hints of sandalwood, pencil shavings and menthol plus a waft of aniseed. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is charged with wonderful energy, featuring bright, black, crunchy fruit and a velvety texture, finishing with fantastic freshness. Nicely done! The 2019 Fourcas Dupré has an attractive nose with buoyant red berry fruit, bing cherry, rose petal and forest floor scents, showing more vivacity than the Fourcas Hosten alongside. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fresh acidity, quite sweet towards the pliant finish that feels succulent. Probably early drinking compared to others, though it has the substance to last. Drinking range: 2023 - 2043 Rating: 90-92 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Jun 2020)

Lots of black licorice and blueberries with wet earth and mushrooms. Medium to full body, firm tannins and a savory finish. A blend of 66% cabernet sauvignon, 33% merlot and 1% petit verdot. Nicely done and underscoring the success of Listrac in the vintage. Rating: 91-92 James Suckling, www.jamessuckling.com (May 2020)

Château Fourcas Dupré

A 46ha estate in Listrac, the highest point in the Medoc, with a mix of well drained soils, 80% Pyrenean gravels, 20% clay-limestone. Originally called Château Roulet, Jean Antoine Baptiste Dupré renamed the estate in 1843.

The vineyards are planted with 44% Cabernet Sauvignon, 44% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. Vinification is classical, with four weeks in vats, barrels and amphora, after which the wine is aged 14 fourteen months in french oak barrels, of which 25% are new each year. The consultant oenologist is Eric Boissenot.
