CHÂTEAU SÉNÉJAC

2019 Cru Bourgeois Supérieur Haut Médoc

Colour Red
Origin France, Bordeaux
Sub-district Haut Médoc
Classification Cru Bourgeois Supérieur
ABV 13.5%

Extremely juicy cassis and enticing hedgerow here, this is bright, perky, less flesh on the bones than 2018 but with plenty of character. It settles in the glass, and you feel the build up of tannins. Will be interesting to taste in bottle, there is real potential here. Drinking range: 2025 - 2038 Rating: 91 Jane Anson, Decanter (Jun 2020)

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2019 Senejac opens with vibrant notes of Morello cherries, fresh blackcurrants and black raspberries with hints of pencil shavings, lavender and cloves. The medium-bodied palate is bright and crunchy in the mouth, possessing tons of fresh red and black berry flavors and finely grained tannins to support, finishing pleasantly earthy. Rating: 90-92 Lisa Perrotti-Brown, RobertParker.com (Jun 2020)

The 2019 Sénéjac is a complex, beguiling Haut-Médoc. Sweet pipe tobacco, cedar, mint, licorice, dried herbs, menthol, dried flowers and mint are some of the many aromas and flavors that lift from the glass. Sénéjac offers unreal complexity and tons of energy that continues to build through to a long, beautifully persistent finish laced with expressive savory top notes. Drinking range: 2025 - 2039 Rating: 91 Antonio Galloni, www.vinous.com (Feb 2022)

The 2019 Sénéjac, matured in 30% new oak, has retained its lovely mulberry and raspberry scents on the nose, though it’s perhaps a little livelier and more vivacious than I remember from barrel. The palate is medium-bodied and elegant, with fine tannins, tart red fruit and gentle grip. That salinity is still intact, and there’s a bit more length than before. Very fine. Drinking range: 2024 - 2040 Rating: 90 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Feb 2022)

Château Sénéjac

So far south in the Haut-Médoc that it exists in splendid isolation, without vineyard neighbours, in the tiny settlement of Le Pian Médoc, is Château Sénéjac. The usual Bordelais long complicated history is crowned by the purchase of Sénéjac in 1999 by Lorraine Cordier, owner of Château Talbot. Since Lorraine’s death, Sénéjac has been managed by her sister Nancy Bignon Cordier with operations overseen by Alfred Tesseron and his team from Château Pontet Canet. There are 39ha of vineyard, in a single block, planted with 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot, with an average age of 35 years. The wines of Château Sénéjac offer splendid value and relatively early appeal.
