2019 KUMEU RIVER 'Stables Blend' Chardonnay

This is a blend of two of our oldest vineyards that we thought would be an interesting exercise, particularly in a wonderful vintage like 2019. The Coddington portion from the Stables end of that vineyard shows a bit more crisp citrus and white peach rather than the typical ripe peachy richness of Coddington. This was blended with some Mate's Vineyard from older barrels which were not being used in the final selection of Mate's Vineyard Chardonnay. We thought the blend came up splendidly. The underlying density and length of the Mate's combined nicely with the peachiness of Coddington. The way the barrels worked out also helped, so the wine has a hint of new oak (16%) but certainly not over-done. Winemaker's notes (Feb 2021)
