A nose almost as suave as the Charmes Chambertin, but cooler, more serious. Sappy, silky softness to the palate too, despite all the obvious concentration. Very dark fruit and richly mineral tensile mid-palate, all wrapped in a thick softness. So intense and so long - and yet really all still very tight and and closed. This is surprisingly open and expressive for a young Mazis with its combination of ultra-spicy, floral and sauvage notes that add excellent breadth to the plum, violet and underbrush scents. Once again there is a gorgeous texture to the big-bodied, powerful and tautly muscular flavors that deliver absolutely huge length on the impeccably well-balanced finale. Brooding and reserved, the 2019 Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru opens in the glass with notions of raspberries and cassis mingled with exotic spices, orange rind, peonies, loamy soil, grilled meats and other carnal bass notes. Full-bodied, multidimensional and searingly concentrated, it's layered and complete, with huge reserves of fruit, acidity and tannin, concluding with a long and penetrating finish. Domaine Dugat-Py, along with only DRC, Roumier, Rousseau and Leroy, is rated in the top Three Star category by the 'Classement' published by the Revue du Vin de France. These are the essence of robust Burgundy, wines of huge scale and concentration. Patience is required, so lay down a few grand bottles for your dotage.
