Round rich nose and palate. Significantly weightier than the village wines. Terrific intensity of fruit and cool fresh depth. They lost a lot of production here, making just 25hl/ha in Nuits, which might account for some of the concentration. Drinking range: 2030 - 2045 L&S (Oct 2020)

With a square frame and a little less exoticism on display than found in the pair of Vosnes, this wine is, on the face of it, a less overtly delicious candidate, but there is so much energy and flair here it is amazing. I am mightily impressed with the depth of fruit and also the length of flavour and so I am going to reward it with yet another serious score. Rating: 18.5+ Matthew Jukes www.matthewjukes.com (Jan 2021)

A slightly riper nose features notes of mocha and plenty of spice on the aromas of backed plum, black raspberry and discreet floral whiffs that include violet and a hint of lavender. The sleeker and finer medium weight flavors exude more evident minerality as well on the beautifully detailed and lingering finale where the only nit is a hint of warmth. This too should age effortlessly. Drinking range: 2029 - Rating: 91-93 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jan 2021)

The 2019 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Chaignots is immensely charming, bursting from the glass with aromas of cassis, plums, black truffle, violets and loamy soil, framed by a deft touch of creamy new oak. Medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, it's deep and lively, with an ample core of pure, succulent fruit that largely conceals the wine's underlying structure. While the secret is starting to get out about this cuvée's quality, it remains one of the finest values in the Côte de Nuits. Rating: 93-95 William Kelley, The Wine Advocate (Jan 2021)

Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg

Domaine Mugneret-Gibourg was founded in 1933 on the marriage of Jeanne Gibourg and André Mugneret. Holdings then consisted of Bourgogne, village Nuits, village Vosne and Echezeaux. Their son Georges, an opthalmologist by day, added to the vineyards, but his acquisitions (Nuits 1ers Crus Vignes Rondes and Chaignots, Chambolle 1er Cru Feusselottes, and Grands Crus Clos Vougeot and Ruchottes Chambertin) were kept separate as Domaine Georges Mugneret.

On Georges' death in 1988, his widow Jacqueline and daughter Marie-Christine took over. Marie-Andrée, the younger daughter joined them a little later having completed her studies as an oenologist. In 2009 Jacqueline retired and the two domaine names were put together to become Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg, ending the prior confusion of labels.

The sisters have proved more than safe hands as far as the winemaking is concerned, and these are top-flight Burgundies with that elusive balance of enough concentration allied with delicacy of expression and the capability to age well. All the vineyard management has been brought in-house (the domaine previously relied on two métayeurs for part of the vineyard) and the quality has reached new heights, its wines some of the most sought-after in the Côte de Nuits.

In 2017 Marie-Christine 's daughter Lucie joined the domaine, and Marion and Fanny, daughters of Marie-Andrée are now also part of the team.
