Like the Chambertin, this is giving little away on the nose, and seems a bit of a sleeping giant - which wants to remain asleep for now. In the mouth it grows slowly, with tannins that remain taut, so a crunchier texture than some of the others, and lots of energy. The finale is impressive with lots of power and length: give it time. Drinking range: 2035 - 2050 L&S (Nov 2021)

Hailing from the southern part of Clos de Bèze, this parcel is 0.8 hectare, 55 years old and owned by Pierre Damoy. (Again, Christophe chooses the picking date.) The nose is reserved, but the palate is forthcoming. Grilled black plums, bramble and earthiness tumble onto the rich palate saturated with fruit succulence but showing incredible elegance. The tannins are robust but highly polished, and the buoyant acidity leads the flavors into a decadently long finish. Drinking range: 2027 - 2045 Rating: 98 Christy Canterbury MW - TimAtkin.com (Feb 2022)

(also from purchased fruit). This is aromatically similar to the Chambertin but, as is usually the case, much spicier and this spiciness carries over to the beautifully textured and lavishly rich flavors that possess that wonderful quality of inner mouth perfume, all wrapped in a powerful and gorgeously textured and massively long finish. This beauty is at once sophisticated yet robust and a wine that should live for several decades. Brilliant and one of the wines of the vintage. Drinking range: 2038 - Rating: 96-98 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jan 2022)

Vines are owned and farmed by Pierre Damoy, with Perrot-Minot choosing the harvest date. Cask sample. A hint of vegetal complexity again; offering freshness to a solid base of red, black and blue fruit. This is rather handsome and long, it’s burly and very fruit-driven, less overtly sweet than the Chambertin, with the acidity preserving freshness and the vegetal note a dose of intrigue. Drinking range: 2030 - 2045 Rating: 18 Matthew Hayes, www.jancisrobinson.com (Jan 2022)

Domaine Christophe Perrot-Minot

Christophe Perrot-Minot is now the fourth generation of his family producing wine on the estate after his great grandfather Amédée Merme devoted himself to the management and production of wine over 130 years ago. The estate has gone from strength to strength – always keeping the highest standards. Integrated viticulture has been practiced for many years now which has been adapted especially for the terroir. No herbicide or chemical fertilizer is used, instead, Christophe prefers to “stand back and listen to this terroir, only intervening when necessary or when the weather requires it, never systematically.” This is one of the star domaines of the whole of Burgundy.
