(from a 2.06 ha parcel on the Puligny side). Here the wood treatment is no longer subtle though it stops short of fighting with the wonderfully broad-ranging nose of lemon confit, jasmine tea, acacia blossom and an abundance of spice elements. There is superb density and almost painful intensity to the palate staining big-bodied flavors that deliver massive persistence on the perfectly balanced finale. This strikingly pretty Montrachet is indisputably constructed for the very long haul, and I would recommend not touching a bottle for at least ten years. In sum, this is a stunning wine of class and grace. Drinking range: 2035 - Rating: 94-97 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jun 2022)

The 2020 Montrachet Marquis de Laguiche Grand Cru is consistent with my previous tasting in January. Exquisite definition on the nose, real mineralité here. The palate is intense and penetrating, touches of orange zest and spice building wonderfully towards the finish. Excellent. Drinking range: 2027 - 2050 Rating: 97 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (May 2022)

Tightly honed, this shows excellent intensity, purity and focus. The superbly long and ringing finish has fine vibration. Drinking range: 2028 - 2040 Rating: 98-99 World of Fine Wine Magazine (Apr 2022)

The 2020 Montrachet Grand Cru (Marquis de Laguiche) has a complex bouquet with orchard fruit, crushed rock, orange blossom and light liquorice scents in the background lending a touch of exoticism. The palate is very well balanced with great depth and dimension. Perfectly judged acidity, quite powerful on the finish, this is a multi-layered Montrachet that will require several years in bottle. Love the flintiness on the aftertaste! Drinking range: 2026 - 2055 Rating: 95-97 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Dec 2021)

Joseph Drouhin

Despite the size of their vineyard holding, not all Drouhin's wines come from their own domaine, but most of the other wines do come from long-term contracts, such as exists with the Marquis de Laguiche wines. In all but name these wines are 'Domaine' wines, and the vineyards are cared for and the wines vinified with exactly the same care.
