District Côte d'Or
Sub-district Côte de Nuits
Village Nuits Saint Georges

Vineyard Les Belles Croix

Below Les Pruliers, on the south side at the very entrance to the combe. Deep fine clay soil, and it's a deep clay soil kind of wine, with broad shoulders and body dense with savour, if not the elegance that the rock can bring, but it is powerful and long and satisfying. Drinking range: 2027 - 2039 L&S (Nov 2021)

Here the nose is firmly reduced though hints of wood and earth are perceptible behind the funk. The richer if somewhat less refined flavors possess good mid-palate concentrated along with a palate coating texture on the rustic, mildly warm and borderline chewy finish. This is very Nuits in basic character. Drinking range: 2027 - Rating: 87-90 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jan 2022)

2020 is the first year when Team Thibault have managed the vines here. The August hail stones were mitigated by rain at the same time, which limits their impact. The wood was not damaged so Thibault was able to use 30% whole bunches. Black purple colour, slightly more lifted nose, more in black fruit than red, power packed, currently just a bit severe at the finish. Tasted: November 2021 Rating: 88-91 Jasper Morris - Inside Burgundy  (Jan 2022)

The 2020 Nuits Saint-Georges Belle Croix comes from more clayey soils. It has an attractive bouquet with crushed rock, touches of espresso merging with the red berry fruit, the 50% whole cluster lending a touch of spiciness. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, quite fleshy and with plenty of rondeur. Gentle on the finish, this is likely to be an early-drinking ‘20 with broad appeal. Drinking range: 2024 - 2036 Rating: 89-91 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Dec 2021)

Thibault Liger-Belair Successeurs

The lack of the word 'domaine' in the name signals that this is a négociant wine from Thibault Liger-Belair. On the whole Thibault buys grapes having tended the vines with his own team, so that the wines are domaine wines in all but name.
