Vineyard Les Champgains

This is lovely in what appears to be an outstanding vintage for Faiveley’s Chardonnays. Les Champgains is on the Truffières side of the vineyard (higher up so lots of daily sun and cooler evenings), thus more minerality rather than dense rich fruit. Immediately appealing, intense aromatics of lime and pear, versatile and fleshy. Very fine and harmonious. It promises to be stunning in the years to come. Drinking range: 2024 - 2027 L&S (Nov 2021)

(from the Truffière side of the vineyard). There is a vague whiff of the exotic to the smoky aromas of poached pear, passion fruit, mineral reduction and just enough wood influence to remark upon. Here too the wood shows up on the palate of the middle weight flavors that also display good punch and detail on the lingering bitter lemon-inflected finish. Drinking range: 2026 - Rating: 90-92 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jun 2022)

The 2020 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Champ Gain is excellent, mingling scents of citrus oil and peach with notions of freshly baked bread, hazelnuts and nutmeg. Medium to full-bodied, ample and layered, it's satiny but tensile, with a racy spine of acidity and a long, saline finish. Rating: 92-94+ William Kelley, The Wine Advocate (Jan 2022)

A little bit toasty on the nose. Hint of struck match. Powerful, smoky, with intense citrus core, both lemon and grapefruit. The very end of the bottle but still impressive. Power and freshness, almost meshed and sure to become so but needs time. Drinking range: 2024 - 2034 Rating: 17+ Julia Harding MW, www.JancisRobinson.com (Jan 2022)
