Attractive fruit with red berries and hints of flower and stems, following through to a medium body, soft tannins and a juicy finish. From organically grown grapes. Rating: 90-91 James Suckling, www.jamessuckling.com (May 2022)

Owned by Olivier Decelle, this always stands out during En Primeur for its exceptionally high levels of Cabernet Franc, and you get clear sinew and muscular frame, with lemongrass, saffron, oyster shell and crushed rock salinity. Puts the emphasis squarely on austerity, but give it time because there is careful construction here, and a ton of juice, flavoursome with red cherry and raspberry fruits, and white truffle character. Certified organic since 2017, in conversion to biodynamic. Drinking range: 2026 - 2042 Rating: 93 Jane Anson, www.janeanson.com (May 2022)

A Cabernet Franc-dominant blend, the 2021 Jean Faure bursts with aromas of sweet berry fruit, rose petals, bay leaf, plums and menthol. Medium to full-bodied, ample and seamless, it's polished and succulent, with a pretty core of fruit, lively acids and melting tannins, concluding with a saline finish. Rating: 91-93 William Kelley, The Wine Advocate (Apr 2022)

Château Jean Faure

Château Jean Faure was bought by Olivier Decelle (who had already acquired the Maury, 'Mas Amiel' by then) in 2004. This ended a dark period in the property's history, since it had lost its position as a 'Grand Cru Classé' in 1985, thanks to bad management at the time. A long period of investment and restructuring followed. The vineyard oof 18 hectares, being partly on a similar gravel to its near neighbour Cheval Blanc, is composed of 56% Cabernet Franc, 40% Merlot and 6% Malbec. The property has now regained its 'classé' rank. The wine is aged for eighteen months, one third in concrete, and two thirds in barrels, 60% new, and 40% one year old.
