59 Merlot, 23 Cabernet Franc, 18 Cabernet Sauvignon | Less than one third new oak – 500l barrels for 12 months and foudre. | 13% alc | 18 hl/ha While the Merlot at Quinault L’Enclos was harvested in ‘just ripe’ conditions, the Cabernet was fleshy, smooth and ripe. The result is a nicely-weighted and well-balanced wine with a smooth and uncomplicated palate. Rating: 16.5 Matthew Jukes www.matthewjukes.com (Jun 2022)

Here the warmer soils at Quinault, which can be hard to handle in hot years, helped encourage ripeness. This has a bright clarity to the fruit, waves of graphite, raspberry, loganberry, reserved but juicy in character, and very much in keeping with the new style of Quinault. 50% new oak (500l casks), and then the rest up to 5 years old so neutral oak impact. Long slow harvest, cool maturation, a very different kind of vintage. 20hl/h yield working in 100% organic. Drinking range: 2025 - 2038 Rating: 92 Jane Anson, www.janeanson.com (May 2022)

Pretty blue fruit with graphite and fine, juicy tannins. Medium-bodied with a fine, silky texture. 59% merlot, 23% cabernet franc and 18% cabernet sauvignon. Rating: 92-93 James Suckling, www.jamessuckling.com (May 2022)

The 2021 Quinault l'Enclos delivers aromas of cherries, strawberries and warm spices, followed by a medium to full-bodied, fleshy and enveloping palate that's supple and charming, with lively acids and a demonstrative, fruit-driven style. Some 80% of the blend is matured in foudres rather than barriques. It's produced by Cheval Blanc's winemaking team. Rating: 88-90 William Kelley, The Wine Advocate (May 2022)

Château Quinault l'Enclos

A 19 hectare estate located in the Saint-Émilion appellation of Bordeaux. Although originating the the 17th century, the Château was not used in the production of wine until it was bought by négociant Baptiste Mons in 1930. Since then it has been brought along in leaps and bounds by Dr. Alain Raynaud until its sale in 2008 to Bernard Arnault and his associate Albert Frère, however Raynaud stayed on as a consultant at the property. The vines have a high average age of 60-70 years, and are planted on gravel, sand and clay terroir.
