The 2022 Pinot Noir Cornish Point is an elegant, stylish wine with precision and poise. It tickles the nose with its fragrance, almost dancing up your nostrils, bringing woody green herbs to your olfactory. Christmas spices and fruit cake aromas appear alongside fresh cherries and plums. It is shy of medium-bodied and isn't showy, offering a more delicate, light-on-its-feet style than other Pinot Noirs from the Felton Road stable. The wine ends with a gentle lift, reminiscent of a conductor lifting his baton and instructing the orchestra to end the quiet final note. The finish is fragrant and pure fruited. Drinking range: 2024 - 2033 Rating: 93 Rebecca Gibb MW - Vinous.com (May 2024)

*Case price discount: Mix any 12 bottles of wine (or 9 litre equivalent) or 6 bottles of Champagne, Spirits, Sweet Wine or Fortified (4.5 litres) to get the discounted 'case price' for each bottle.

Not the boldest aroma but instead very pretty subtle rosehip, raspberry fruit. A little whole cluster gives a cinnamon, clove oil layer. The palate is utterly charming; silken smooth tannins, just the right amount of fresh sappy fruit. Very polished and suave but retains a slight edge of crunch that gives vitality. Drinking range: 2024 - 2029 Rating: **** 93 Jane Skilton MW, Inside Burgundy (Dec 2023)

Aromas of balsamic, spice, plum and dried strawberry. Medium to full body with round and fine tannins showing polish and energy. Salty. Savory and subtle fruit. 7.6 hectares. Very high calcium-based soils. From biodynamically grown grapes with Demeter certification. Screw cap. Rating: 96 James Suckling, www.jamessuckling.com (Oct 2023)

Felton Road

Felton Road and Rippon are undoubtedly the two leading vineyards in Central Otago, both making Pinots that are finely textured with fresh fruit flavours, rather than the 'fruit bombs' that so many others produce. Felton Road has been totally organic and biodynamic across their three Bannockburn vineyards since 2005. They have been certified by Demeter since 2009. After that there are more differences than similarities.
While Rippon, at Wanaka is on schist, Felton Road in Banockburn is on clay and calcareous loess. It is also very much in the rain shadow of the Main Divide. Irrigation is used at Rippon to help establish young vines, but dry farming is possible once the vines get their roots down, while at Felton Road permanent irrigation is required for the entire vineyard.
