The estate's top cuvée or Gold Label (Oro) is classic Gavi from their very old vineyards. The big difference here is that the wine spends six months on the lees adding extra weight, a hint of smoky spice, some crisp apricot fruit and more texture, but this is delicately done and just adds to the whole. Tenuta la Marchesa

The villa 'La Marchesa' after which this estate is named was built in 1750 by the owners at the time, a Genovese banking family, in order to keep their daughter happy for her forthcoming wedding day. It is now in the hands of the Giulini family, who have installed a brand new wine cellar with the most up to date vinification techniques, whilst maintaining the character of the original villa. Situated a mere 40 km from the sea, the soil on the estate is a clay/limestone mix and greatly influences the character of its wines. We’ve built this 12-bottle case as the ultimate antidote to the rich, heavy indulgence of the festive season. When you’ve had your fill of gravy, goose, and chocolate coins, there is honestly nothing better than reaching for a bottle that’s as sharp and invigorating as a frosty morning walk.
We’ve packed this case with proper lively whites. You’ve got the classics, naturally: a textbook, gun-flinty Pouilly-Fumé from Hervé Séguin and a 'bright and elegant' Petit Chablis from the Dauvissat family (yes, that famous winemaking lineage). There’s also a classic Gavi di Gavi that spends time on its lees for a bit of extra texture, lovely stuff.
But we’ve also slipped in some absolute crackers you might not know yet. There’s a gorgeously textured Godello from Spain that’s all pithy lime and minerals, and a Lugana from Lake Garda that’s delightfully perky. For a bit of zip, we have a steely dry Riesling from the Mosel, and if you want something a bit posher for the main event, there’s a mineral fresh Pouilly-Fuissé from Domaine Barraud that hits all the right notes.
Round it off with a super fresh Northern Rhône Viognier and the brilliantly priced Château Beaumont Blanc, and you’re sorted. Keep these in the fridge door, and you’ll be ready for anything, from unexpected guests to a quiet mince pie by the fire.
