CHÂTEAU LAFAURIE PEYRAGUEY

2024 1er Cru Classé Sauternes

Colour White
Origin France, Bordeaux
Village Sauternes
Classification 1er Cru Classé
ABV 13%

The 2024 Lafaurie-Peyraguey has a well-defined bouquet with pure honey, peach skin and marmalade scents that blossom in the glass. Very fine delineation. The palate is taut and fresh, revealing notes of peach, pear, quince and mango laced with crushed stone. It eases off the accelerator on the stem ginger-tinged finish to furnish this Sauternes with a taut and tensile aftertaste. Classy and sophisticated. Drinking range: 2028 - 2052 Rating: 94-96 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (May 2025)

The 2024 Lafaurie-Peyraguey has a medium straw-gold color. It bursts with bold notes of acacia honey, chamomile tea, and preserved orange peel with a touch of musk perfume. The palate is seductively unctuous with just enough freshness, finishing long and spicy. Rating: 94-96 Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW, The Wine Independent (Jun 2025)

Apple crumble, saffron, mango, pineapple, bitter orange peel without being overpowering, sharp, well balanced, great quality, one to sink into and share with friends. Silvio Denz owner, 12 hl/ha yield. Drinking range: 2026 - 2038 Rating: 94 Jane Anson, www.janeanson.com (May 2025)

100 Sem Fresh lime and dried apricot aromas with some vanilla and saffron from oak and good botrytis aromas. Clean and lively in the mouth with excellent balancing acidity and some honey nut nougat flavours. Lovely balance of sugar (est. 130g/L) to lime fresh acidity. Rating: 92 Rod Smith MW, www.timatkin.com (Apr 2025)

Château Lafaurie Peyraguey

Sauternes Premier Cru 1855 This was originally a fortification built at least as long ago as the 13th Century. By 1618, it was the home of Sieur Raymond Peyraguey. The vineyard business was developed by the Baron de Pichard, who bought the estate in 1742. Unfortunately for him, he lost his head in the Revolution and his château and vineyards were sold to a M. Lafaurie. The first half of the 19th Century saw Lafaurie-Peyraguey's reputation rise from nearly unknown to being ranked 3rd, behind ChâteauLa Tour Blanche and near neighbour Château d'Yquem in 1855. In 1879 a small portion of the estate was didvided off to become Château Clos Haut-Peyraguey. In 1917, Lafaurie-Peyraguey was bought by Désiré Cordier, who owned it until they sold to the Suez Group in 1984. The 40ha of vineyard are planted with 90% Semillon, 8% Sauvignon Blanc and 2% Muscadelle. The grapes are hand-picked and the wine fermented in wood, before ageing for 18 to 20 months.
