A scented, mineral nose, showing red berries and cherries. Lighter this year on the medium-bodied palate, this has firm tannins tightly wound into the less intense red fruit. Quite juicy and refined. Elegant. Likely to be a very well-balanced and drinkable wine. Rating: 92-93 James Suckling, www.jamessuckling.com (Apr 2025)

The 2024 Potensac is laced with hints of cedar, tobacco, dried herbs and leather. The 2024 shows good aromatic presence and fine depth, especially for the year. Clean saline notes extend the finish. As is so often the case, Potensac is an under-the-radar gem. Drinking range: 2026 - 2034 Rating: 89-91 Antonio Galloni, www.vinous.com (Apr 2025)
Sappy acidities, bright and vivid red fruits but a touch leafy, which brings things to a close more swiftly than the past excellent few vintages at this property. 15% new oak. 3.68 pH. 35 hl/ha. 12.2% press wine. Harvest 27 September to 2 October Mikaël Georges technical director, 35hl/h yield. This is the lowest amount of Merlot to date in this wine, a reflection of the reworked vineyard. There is still a 2nd wine at Potensac, but sold in bottle only. Drinking range: 2030 - 2042 Rating: 89 Jane Anson, www.janeanson.com (May 2025)
45 CS 33 M 22 CF 12.9% Fresh herbs and black fruit aromas with some peppery spice. Juicy red and black fruit in the mouth with lovely berry juiciness and freshness. The weight of tannins is good and the finish is supple and with persistence. A fine effort from Potensac this year - worth seeking out and will be approachable in the short to mid term. Rating: 89 Rod Smith MW, www.timatkin.com (Apr 2025)
Château Potensac
Château Potensac is owned by the Delon family, owners of Léoville-Las Cases and Nénin. Potensac belies its humble Cru Bourgeois status and regularly outperforms its more illustrious neighbours.
The vineyards of Potensac are located in Ordonnac in Médoc. The blend is predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon, with approximately 40% Merlot and Cabernet Franc combined.
Yields are severely restricted to around 35 hl/ha (hectolitres per hectare) and rigorous selection for the 'grand vin' consigns roughly 35% of the harvest to the second wine, named Château Lassalle. Michel and Jean-Hubert Delon do not filter their wines as they prefer the more caring approach of fining with egg whites.
