Peppy, bright and joyous - but there s some good Poruzot heft too. Mineral power builds an edifice in the mouth. Not tough - not hard - just imposing and impressive. Juicy and clean as a whistle. You taste with a mix of admiration and total delight. Drinking range: 2030 - 2035 L&S (Nov 2025)

The 2024 Meursault Poruzots 1er Cru, which was racked a couple of weeks before my visit, has an effervescent bouquet with orange zest, lime and light walnut scents that blossom in the glass. The palate is very well balanced with an almost minimalist tensile opening, as if this Meursault is just keeping something up its sleeve for those with the nous to cellar it for four to five years. Plenty of energy but the patient will be rewarded. Drinking range: 2029 - 2049 Rating: 92-94 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Jan 2026)

The first white to be picked. Old vines, on 161/49 rootstock, but holding up for the most part, with replacements where needed. Mid lemon yellow, with a little bit more sunshine evident on the nose. This has all the necessary components, adequate flesh, quality fruit from various parts of the orchard, from apples to mirabelle, and good acidity to back up the whole. Very good. ****. Drinking range: 2029 - 2034 Rating: 92-95 Jasper Morris - Inside Burgundy  (Oct 2025)

Domaine Henri Germain

Jean-François Germain was joined in 2018 by his daughter Lucie - who is now helping to run this small (7ha) domaine.

The Chassagne vineyards came through his mother, a Pillot, and Jean-François is married to François Jobard's daughter, so they are quite intertwined with some of our other producers. The Poruzots comes from the rows next to Remi Jobard's. In terms of winemaking the Germains are always happy to let nature take its course, and in the vineyards they follow as natural a system of viticulture as possible (organic, not certified).

These are concentrated, tightly wound wines from one of Burgundy's coldest cellars. Alcoholic fermentations can take months and the malolactics are often late, so they have always gone for long élevage in old barrels, always for two winters, and the Premiers Crus usually for 22 months. Slow to develop, they show wonderful crystalline purity. New wood is used very sparingly, just to replace barrels sold when they get to ten years old.
