If one thinks of Argentinian wine, one thinks of Malbec. The variety is originally French, allowable but only grown in very isolated pockets in Bordeaux, and the principal grape variety in Cahors in south-west France. But it thrives in Mendoza, the vast region of central Argentina that produces two-thirds of the country’s wine. Argentinian Malbec has, in a very short space of time, become one of the world’s staple wine styles.
