 2012 Burgundy en Primeur

I know from speaking to several customers over the last few days that there are more of you out there who have been meaning to order 2012 Burgundy but have just not quite got round to it. Now is the moment!

We have just added around twenty new wines to the 2012 Burgundy offer which had previously been on allocation only, including Pommard Clos des Epeneaux, a wine which prompted Antonio Galloni to write “Readers who can find the 2012 should not hesitate, as it is shaping up to be one of the wines of the vintage Attention, quantities of some of the others are not big – in some cases only six bottles, but order now via the site and your orders will be dealt with strictly in the order they come in. This is the moment to grab a little bit of something from established stars like Perrot-Minot, or from up and coming growers like Virgile Lignier and Stéphane Magnien. (Top Tip – check the ‘bigger bottles’ lists).

There is still real value in the glorious vintage that is 2012 Burgundy, see these comments about Comte Armand’s Auxey Duresses as an example.

2012 AUXEY DURESSES Domaine Comte Armand (£99 for six bottles, in bond)
“The 2012 Auxey-Duresses is a drop-dead gorgeous beauty. A brilliant and precise wine, the 2012 bursts from the glass with sweet red berries, cranberries, flowers, mint and crushed rocks. The 2012 dazzles for its energy, crystalline and phenomenal purity. What a fabulous wine this is. 2014-2022″

Antonio Galloni wrote for Robert Parker and The Wine Advocate until venturing forth with his own very comprehensive website last year

“The 2012 Auxey-Duresses Village has a lucid ruby color. The nose is vibrant with scents of wild strawberry and raspberry jam aromas joined by blueberry scents with time in the glass. The palate has plenty of energy exuded by the sorbet-fresh entry with fine acidity throughout. The tannins are fine and juicy with a lively mineral-rich, cassis-driven finish. This will provide wonderful early drinking.”

“Good bright red. Tangy aromas of red raspberry and cherry. A juicy, intense fruit bomb with a hint of herbs contributing to the impression of cut. Plenty of chewy extract here, especially for fruit harvested with 11.8% potential alcohol. A delicious outperformer.”
