Is there anything that beats a good Dinner Party? Coming together to share delicious food, exciting wines, and lively conversation with friends now seems more essential than ever before – but how to have that experience now? In recent weeks, technology has really stepped up to the plate, changing the way we work, play, and socialise.
2018 was a very hot vintage – the growing season only beaten by 2003 for overall heat. However the wines are very different from 2003, for even where they are ripe there is much more freshness than one could have dreamed possible.
We were delighted to kick-off ‘Burgundy Fortnight’ in London with one of the opening tastings for our 2014 Burgundy primeurs on Monday. There is clearly great interest in this latest vintage release and rightly so – there are many delicious wines at every price level.
“London’s award-winning independent merchant has a penchant for the great and the very good from Europe but picks its New World offerings with great care (and success) too, and all of this at very nice prices to boot.”
We have picked twelve wines – 6 white, 6 red – from our 2013 Burgundy offer. Twelve wines that excited us and excited the critics, and say something about the vintage, about us and/or about their producers.
We’ve just 2 cases left of this lovely wine from one of the top wine producers of the Côte de Beaune. If you are perhaps new to Burgundy wines this is a great opportunity to taste fine, if not overly complex red Burgundy for a reasonable price. For seasoned Burgundy fans you must also take a look at the Domaine’s full wine list (see below).
Another ‘last parcel’ email – we’ve found in our warehouse just 6 and a half cases of this excellent value burgundy from another of our under the radar producers – Domaine de la Douaix – which are very worthy of a good home:
As featured in The Times today by Jane Macquitty in her article ‘My favourite wines for sensible drinkers’ – this Marsannay from one of our favourite ‘under the radar’ Burgundy producers offers a great opportunity to add something a little more serious to your collection (or your table) at a very reasonable price:
Stephen Tanzer is the respected author of the well-followed wine review site International Wine Cellar and his thoughts are widely quoted, not least by LEA & SANDEMAN. Quoted as "exceptionally informative" by none other than Robert Parker and "thoroughly reliable" by our own Jancis Robinson MW, his views on the wines of the 2012 Burgundy vintage are required reading.
Please note this mail refers to a Primeur offer. All orders are accepted under the TERMS of this offer which differ from the terms of the rest of the site. I know from speaking to several customers over the last few days that there are more of you out there who have been meaning to order 2012 Burgundy but have just not quite got round to it.
You will be aware of Susie & Peter. They may sound a bit like CBeebies presenters but they are, in fact, the two rising stars of wine reviewerdom - Peter Richards MW and Susie Barrie MW, two MWs who married each other and take turns to pop up on 'Saturday Kitchen' conjuring up wine matches to the cuisine on offer in James Martin's TV kitchen.
The winegang’s January report includes on L&S wines tasted last year at our Sangiovese, Pinot Noir & Nebbiolo tasting and at The Bunch’s trade tasting. “The scores from both events speak for themselves” they say. Speak away…
