The best red wines to buy for Christmas 2021, The Telegraph, Victoria Moore, 27/11/2021:

‘While if you’re looking at Lea & Sandeman, you could consider the glossy Ch Capbern 2015 St Estèphe (£25.75 | £27.95) , the lovely Fleurie from Clos de la Roilette (£17.25 | £19.50), L&S’s excellent own-label white burgundy (£12.95 | £14.50), and don’t forget the fantastic grower champagne from Gonet-Médeville and the Daniel Barraud white burgundy from last week. Happy Christmas!’

2018 Monfils Garnacha

2020 GARNACHA Bodegas y Viñedos Monfil
£8.95 | £8.25
Review: ‘This is a cracker: it avoids the nostril-singeing qualities of some higher-alcohol Spanish wines and instead tastes like strawberry coulis with a hint of stone. Terrific value..’

Saint Veran En Creches Barraud

2018 SAINT VÉRAN En Crèches Domaine Daniel Barraud

Review: ‘Barraud makes excellent wine in the southern part of Burgundy, and for my glass the Saint Véran en Crèches is the pick of his cuvées.’

RIOJA FOR CHRISTMAS, The Scotsman, Rose Murray Brown MW, 20/11/2021:

2011 Rioja Alta 904 Gran Reserva

2011 LA RIOJA ALTA 904 Gran Reserva
£53.50 | £50.25
Review: ‘Named in honour of year 1904 when founder Alfredo Ardanza merged with his own Ardanza winery. This 2011 is a gorgeously mature traditional style from an excellent, small volume vintage. Made from grapes grown in Rioja Alta; 89% Tempanillo with a healthy dose of 11% Graciano in the blend giving vivid freshness and savoury notes from four years in old American oak and long bottle age. Loved its plummy balsamic notes and coffee undertones.’

Six of the best savoury wines to try this autumn, The Times, Will Lyons, 17/11/2021:

2019 CHIANTI CLASSICO Poggerino

2019 CHIANTI CLASSICO Poggerino
£19.95 | £17.95
Review: ‘Here’s a thrilling chianti, crafted by the renowned winemaker Piero Lanza. It has all the signature notes one expects of sangiovese, Italy’s noblest grape, from ripe cherry and herbaceous aromas to fresh, tangy acidity on the finish. Meat, mushroom, pasta, ragu — this pairs beautifully with pretty much everything on the autumnal table.’

The 50 best wines for Christmas 2021, The Guardian, David Williams, 14/11/2021:

2017 Pinada Vinos la Higuera

2017 LA PINADA Bobal Agricola de Vinos la Higuera
£12.50 | £10.95
Review: ‘Once considered a workhorse fit only for the most basic bulk wines, bobal has been thoroughly reappraised by Spanish winemakers. This high-altitude, old-vine take on the variety is lithe, lively and gently grippy with rosemary-inflected cranberry and plum.’

Six bottles of beaujolais to drink this week, The Times, Will Lyons, 10/11/2021:

2020 Fleurie Clos de la Roilette Cuvee Christie

2020 FLEURIE Cuvée Christie Clos de La Roilette
£18.50 | £16.50
Review: ‘Fleurie is perhaps the easiest beaujolais to admire, with its perfumed fruit, silky texture and light, gently spicy style. Named after the favourite racehorse of a former owner of the estate, this has purity and elegance, with moreish notes of bitter cherry.’
