Just 2.5 barrels instead of 3 this year because of frost damage in this well placed vineyard, which sits right next to Mazis Chambertin (just 100m away). Beefy nose, nice and broad dark fruit - follows to the palate. Mega intense, mega concentrated, but again so balanced. So crisp and not fat at all. A tad more sinew and darker notes, a blackness to the fruit. More mystery, more brood. Gentle, dark and muscular. L&S (Nov 2017)

Powerful savoury aromas – almost meaty. Then lovely spread of ripe flavours. Quite luscious and flattering. Powerful. But excellent balance and drive. Drinking range: 2023 - 2032 Rating: 17+ Jancis Robinson OBE MW - www.JancisRobinson.com (Feb 2018)

(from two parcels, one 50 and the other 80 years of age): Alluring aromas of boysenberry and licorice pastille are complicated by a subtle animal perfume. At once densely packed and delineated, with thick purple fruit and mineral flavors enlivened by a penetrating violet quality and complicated by a leesy element. This wine's saline minerality contributes to its early personality. Finishes very long and suavely tannic, with a repeating note of licorice pastille. Rating: 91-93 Stephen Tanzer, www.vinousmedia.com (Jan 2018)

(from a .08 ha parcel; vinified with ~70% whole cluster). Here there is no reductive funk which allows the spicy, earth and sauvage-inflected aromas of plum and dark berries to be appreciated. There is excellent volume to the velvety, sappy and seductive flavors that firm up fast on the powerful and youthfully austere finish that is shaped by a prominent tannic spine. This is going to require at least moderate patience. Drinking range: 2031 - Rating: 91-93 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jan 2018)

Domaine Dugat-Py

Domaine Dugat-Py, along with only DRC, Roumier, Rousseau and Leroy, is rated in the top Three Star category by the 'Classement' published by the Revue du Vin de France. These are the essence of robust Burgundy, wines of huge scale and concentration. Patience is required, so lay down a few grand bottles for your dotage.
