Savoury, fresh, energetic nose but without any sweet fruit. A very distinct style statement! Bone-dry finish. Impressive length but it needs time. Drinking range: 2022 - 2029 Rating: 16+ Jancis Robinson OBE MW - www.JancisRobinson.com (Feb 2018)

(from vines between 30 and 50 years of age; vinified with 25% whole clusters and aging in 30% new oak): Very pure aromas of black cherry, dark raspberry and licorice lifted by a violet topnote. Quite ripe and intense, with captivating high-toned lift to its dense flavors of purple and black fruits, spices and violet. More pliant in the early going than the Pommard but also displays lovely delineation. Finishes persistent and suavely tannic. Rating: 89-91 Stephen Tanzer, www.vinousmedia.com (Jan 2018)

(vinified with 20% whole cluster). Reduction presently masks the underlying fruit but the nose seems ripe. Otherwise the dense and energetic medium-bodied flavors possess lovely detail while offering fine length on the balanced and impressively complex finish. This is an excellent Gevrey villages. Drinking range: 2024 - Rating: 89-92 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jan 2018)

The 2016 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes, which comes from vines between 30 and 50 years old and matured in 30% to 40% new oak with a small amount of whole cluster, has a crisp stony, blackberry and bilberry-scented bouquet, not powerful but precise. The palate is marked by slight chalky tannin, linear and strict, full of energy with a smudge of raspberry preserve hanging around on the aftertaste. Give this Vieilles Vignes three or four years in bottle just to abrade those tannins. Drinking range: 2020 - 2032 Rating: 88-90 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Dec 2017)
