50% new wood (one new barrel of two). This is on the slope, with high-trained (2m) vines which have to be worked by hand or horse. Mineral above all, wiry and concentrated, fresher acidity and there's a real vibrancy to it. L&S (Nov 2021)

Worked by horse and hand, Loïc says this is always an airy wine. The full-throttle nose starts with strong minerality and underbrush, and the palate adds blackberries and blueberries tinged with fireplace cinders. The empty glass smells of black tea leaves. Chiselled acidity zings the palate with brightness and lift while the tender tannins meld into the background. Drinking range: 2024 - 2035 Rating: 94 Christy Canterbury MW - TimAtkin.com (Feb 2022)

The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Fonteny is shaping up brilliantly. Unwinding in the glass with aromas of blackberries and cassis, complemented by pretty top notes of peony, licorice and spices, it's medium to full-bodied, ample and sumptuous, with a textural attack that segues into a layered, seamless mid-palate underpinned by exquisitely refined tannins. Concluding with a long, mineral finish, it's another especially elegant cuvée this year. Rating: 94-96 William Kelley, The Wine Advocate (Jan 2022)

(from a .08 ha parcel; 60% stems). Fresh and beautifully layered aromas display nuances of plum, cassis, spice and a lovely array of floral wisps. There is excellent drive to the succulent and mouth coating medium-bodied flavors that conclude in a mildly austere, highly complex and sneaky long finish. This is really very stylish and a wine that should age effortlessly. Drinking range: 2035 - Rating: 92-94 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jan 2022)

Domaine Dugat-Py

Domaine Dugat-Py, along with only DRC, Roumier, Rousseau and Leroy, is rated in the top Three Star category by the 'Classement' published by the Revue du Vin de France. These are the essence of robust Burgundy, wines of huge scale and concentration. Patience is required, so lay down a few grand bottles for your dotage.
