An enticing and super refreshing melange of stone fruit, flowers and wild herbs. Nice bite and crispness on the palate with a juicy fleshiness, notes of yellow plum and citrus with aromatic wild herb notes to the finish. Really good with smoked fish and shell fish. L&S (Apr 2017)

If the pretty labels tempts you to pull this dry Galician white off the shelf, so should the wine itself because its clean, herbal-fresh aromatics are complemented by nicely textured stone fruit flavours that are a little richer and fuller than its Rias Baixas counterpart, Albariño, while a satisfyingly juicy, dry finish makes it as attractive an alternative with grilled prawns, salads and tapas. Rating: 87 The Wine Gang - www.thewinegang.com (Jun 2017)

Candied lemon, soft acid, salty notes on the finish. Good concentration, simple flavour profile, refreshing without being sharp. Drinking range: 2017 - 2019 Rating: 15.5 Richard Hemming MW - www.JancisRobinson.com (Mar 2017)

Pazo da Maga

Antonio Lombardia is a brilliant winemaker and the owner of some beautiful vineyards. For a few years we were delighted to work with him when he formed half of Pena das Donas, making fantastic Godellos – they became firm favourites.

Sadly Antonio and his business partner have gone their separate ways – with Antonio & Francisco wanting more freedom to make better, purer wines – rather than building up volume, which was what he was being encouraged to do.

So it was a bold move to go it alone – but a move we are delighted he has made! With his own business and his newly-built winery at Pazo da Maga, he is free to make the Godello as he likes it – and as we so admired before.

Everything here is hand-picked, carefully destemmed and then fermented at cool temperatures to get the purest expression of Godello from his prime fruit. This sees no oak – but spends a good amount of time in tank on the lees to intensify the flavour and add texture – so simple yet this is intelligent, careful wine-making and he is certainly making the best wines we have seen yet
