MAZIS CHAMBERTIN

2016 Grand Cru Domaine Bernard Dugat-Py

EN PRIMEUR

Hello. Tighter, more compact for now. Tightly furled, gorgeous fruit just peeping out, ripe and red but not sweet. More like macerated raspberries and hawthorn. Rosemary too a tad of leather and rubber as well. Complex and compact. Bursting with energy, but more of the earth for now, less fruit singing. More about the serious feel and drive. Hugely impressive. Blimey. Long, pure and deeply intense.L&S (Nov 2017)

Very intense nose with masses of energy. The savour of Mazoyères with floral, hedgerow top notes. Very compelling. Broad and rich but not at all sweet. Lots of depth. Firm and massively penetrating on the palate. Magnificent. Very clean and energising. Drinking range: 2025 - 2045 Rating: 18.5+ Jancis Robinson OBE MW - www.JancisRobinson.com (Feb 2018)

(from .25 ha parcel of 60+ year old vines planted at a density of 14,000/ha in Mazis-Bas – vinified with 90% stems). A classic Mazis nose of game, smoke, spice, earth and plenty of floral influence leads to borderline painfully intense, muscular and powerful flavors that coat the mouth with sève while delivering huge length on the seamlessly balanced finish. At the risk of sounding like a broken record though this is indisputably constructed for the distant future and I would advise not even thinking about opening a bottle before its 10th birthday. Drinking range: 2041 - Rating: 94-96 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jan 2018)

My own highlights include the Mazis- and Mazoyères-Chambertin and a quite brilliant Gevrey Lavaux Saint-Jacques. The 2016 Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru comes from three parcels (worked by horse) that were untouched by the frost. It includes 90% whole-cluster fruit. It has a not dissimilar bouquet to the Mazoyères-Chambertin but perhaps with a touch more richness—hints of fig complementing the dark cherry and cassis fruit. The palate is marked by firm tannin, very structured but also fresh and energetic, more grip and firmness than the Mazoyères, with a very sustained finish that lingers in the mouth. This just bristles with nascent energy that effortlessly counterbalances its arching structure. For serious Burgundy-philes only. Drinking range: 2026 - 2050 Rating: 96-98 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Dec 2017)

Domaine Dugat-Py, along with only DRC, Roumier, Rousseau and Leroy, is rated in the top Three Star category by the 'Classement' published by the Revue du Vin de France. These are the essence of robust Burgundy, wines of huge scale and concentration. Patience is required, so lay down a few grand bottles for your dotage.

STORAGE OPTIONS:

Wines bought en primeur are scheduled to arrive in the UK over the course of the next eighteen months. If you do not wish to take home delivery, you may wish to consider where you would like the wines shipped on arrival in the UK. Lea & Sandeman offers duty paid and in bond storage through a dedicated storage company called Elephant Storage. For more details on the terms and fees associated with storage please go to our Storage Homepage or contact our primeurs team for more information.

While helpful, we do not require a firm commitment on delivery destination to process your primeur order at this stage. Our team will be in contact with you when your wines arrive in the UK to confirm the necessary delivery details.
