Broader, more wholesome somehow than the other Pulignys. Lovely weight. Oak is totally there but with no spikes or splinters, it's just beautifully framing the fruit already. Seamless, smooth and flowing so sleekly already... Really lovely bright perk to the grapefruit, it gives off a grapefruit and lemony pithiness. Delicious, powerful, yet sleek. L&S (Oct 2017)

Superb floral lift to the aromas of stone and citrus fruits, minerals and smoke. Compellingly silky, even thick, on entry, but with terrific inner-mouth mineral lift shaping and intensifying the wine's lemon and floral flavors. Dense with dry extract, this outstanding 2016 premier cru leaves the salivary glands quivering on the very long, slow-building finish. Ninety percent of these vines are 70 years old, according to Boillot. Drinking range: 2024 - 2034 Rating: 95 Stephen Tanzer, www.vinousmedia.com(Sep 2018)

(from 60+ year old vines and the vineyard is a whopping 4 ha monopole within Perrières). A highly restrained nose requires considerable swirling to liberate the beautifully well-layered aromas of mineral reduction, white rose, spice, citrus and a wisp of exotic tea. Like the Pucelles there is excellent richness and detail and much more minerality-suffusing the almost painfully intense finale that is breathtaking in its persistence. This is a gem of a Puligny 1er and in 2016 is a lovely blend of power and finesse. In sum, this is a knockout. Drinking range: 2028 - Rating: 96 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com(Jun 2018)

Saline, refreshing and citric with a sharper, more vivid palate than their villages Puligny, but not much more complexity. Better length and pith, however, so this is promising for the future. Drinking range: 2020 - 2030 Rating: 17.5+ Richard Hemming MW - www.JancisRobinson.com(Jan 2018)

(13.3% alcohol with 4.5 grams per liter acidity; cropped at 38 hectoliters per hectare, from vines up to 80 years of age): Bright light-medium yellow. Utterly pure scents of stone fruits, apricot, nuts and honeysuckle. Rich, deep, silky and moderately saline but also powerful and backward, displaying terrific precision and purity in the mouth. A superb, classic Clos de la Mouchère: utterly plush and seamless without being heavy or over the top. Boillot noted that he will slowly replant these very old vines in a series of tranches over the next 15 to 25 years. Rating: 93-95 Stephen Tanzer, www.vinousmedia.com(Sep 2017)

Domaine Henri Boillot

A domaine which dates to 1885, but which began properly in the early years of the 20th century under the current Henri's grandfather (also Henri). His son, Jean, was the one who really developed it. Henri arrived in 1975 and worked his way up, becoming the winemaker. In 2000 he began the building of the new winery at the bottom of Meursault, and he then bought out his brother and sister to keep the domaine as one, renaming it from 'Domaine Jean Boillot' to 'Domaine Henri Boillot' to avoid confusion with his brother Jean-Marc's domaine.

After six years working alongside his father, Guillaume is the 'chef de culture', i.e. heads up the vineyard team, and has been entirely responsible for the vinification of the reds since 2012. Henri continues to make the whites which he likes to be 'straight, taut, precise, pure and elegant'. Guillaume's input has resulted in red wines that have gained in definition and energy, without losing the luxurious velvety richness and fruit depth that they have always had.

The Domaine totals around 14 hectares, with roughly equal surfaces of red and white, and of which just under 4ha is the Monopole vineyard of Clos de la Mouchère, a walled enclave within the premier Cru Puligny Perrières. The 2017 vintage saw the arrival of two new parcels of Grand Cru red, in Échezeaux and Latricières Chambertin
