GEVREY CHAMBERTIN

2018 1er Cru Lavaux Saint Jacques Domaine Bernard Dugat-Py

EN PRIMEUR

Spicy. Delicious attack. Deep mature red fruit - but not so sweet. Great weight and sexy impact. Blueberry skin grippiness and bite. Great energy too. Coolish spot because of the Combe says Loïc - this gives superb natural acidity. 50 year old vines. Red fruit and some mineral breadth. Completely delicious.L&S (Nov 2019)

A slightly riper and overtly floral nose combines notes of red currant and red raspberry liqueur with those of sauvage, forest floor and freshly turned earth. The palate impression of the moderately big-bodied flavors is again super-sleek thanks to the relatively fine grain of the supporting tannins that shape the firm, austere and powerful finish. This outstanding LSJ is one to buy and basically forget you own it for at least a decade. Excellent. Drinking range: 2038 - Rating: 94 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jan 2021)

The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaux Saint-Jacques is once again immensely promising, soaring from the glass with a head-turning bouquet that mingles aromas of wild berries, orange rind, peonies and woodsmoke with savory nuances of black truffled, rich soil tones and dark chocolate. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, deep and complete, with racy acids, powdery tannins and a long, mineral finish. The 2018 was vinified with 70% whole clusters and matured in 66% new oak—a notable if hardly advertised change for a cuvée that historically always saw 100% new barrels. Rating: 94-96 William Kelley, The Wine Advocate (Jan 2020)

The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaux Saint-Jacques 1er Cru has a very pure bouquet, quite intense but with a greater proportion of red fruit compared to other cuvées. The palate is underpinned by fine tannins. Very compact at the moment and displaying an almost vitamin-like intensity toward the finish. Blood orange lingers on the aftertaste. This will require several years in bottle. Drinking range: 2024 - 2040 Rating: 91-93 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Jan 2020)

Domaine Dugat-Py, along with only DRC, Roumier, Rousseau and Leroy, is rated in the top Three Star category by the 'Classement' published by the Revue du Vin de France. These are the essence of robust Burgundy, wines of huge scale and concentration. Patience is required, so lay down a few grand bottles for your dotage.

STORAGE OPTIONS:

Wines bought en primeur are scheduled to arrive in the UK over the course of the next eighteen months. If you do not wish to take home delivery, you may wish to consider where you would like the wines shipped on arrival in the UK. Lea & Sandeman offers duty paid and in bond storage through a dedicated storage company called Elephant Storage. For more details on the terms and fees associated with storage please go to our Storage Homepage or contact our primeurs team for more information.

While helpful, we do not require a firm commitment on delivery destination to process your primeur order at this stage. Our team will be in contact with you when your wines arrive in the UK to confirm the necessary delivery details.
