POMMARD

2018 1er Cru Clos Blanc Henri Boillot

EN PRIMEUR

For a wine from young vines this is amazing. Silky, one would say it's from clay, but then it's too elegant - but although there is Pommard power it's not aggressive.L&S (Oct 2019)

(from a parcel purchased in 2007 and replanted; 2018 will be the first vintage where this has been declared under its own name as it was previously blended). This is riper still and there is a touch of prune character to the plummy dark berry fruit scents. The bigger but notably less refined flavors possess a caressing mid-palate that contrasts markedly with the robust and muscular finish that offers very good depth and persistence. While the tannins are firm there is sufficient dry extract to suggest that this could be approached after only 5-ish years. Drinking range: 2030 - Rating: 90 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Apr 2020)

Bottled. Broad, winning nose with tight structure and marked acidity. It should all come right … eventually. Very bright, energetic fruit. Drinking range: 2028 - 2045 Rating: 17+ Jancis Robinson OBE MW - www.JancisRobinson.com (Jan 2020)

The Boillot family purchased this parcel in 2008 and replanted it, and a decade later, the 2018 Pommard 1er Cru Clos Blanc is making a fine debut in the portfolio. Bursting with aromas of plums, berries, cassis and blood orange, it's medium to full-bodied, velvety and ample, with good concentration, succulent acids and the powdery tannins that are the signature of the vintage at this address. This bottling marks a move away from négociant purchases in Pommard for Boillot. Drinking range: 2025 - 2045 Rating: 92 William Kelley, The Wine Advocate (Jan 2020)

Henri Boillot complements his domaine wines with a small range of négociant wines of superb quality in very limited quantities. A few of the whites are offered here - an opportunity to buy some of Burgundy's rarest appellations from a top source.

STORAGE OPTIONS:

Wines bought en primeur are scheduled to arrive in the UK over the course of the next eighteen months. If you do not wish to take home delivery, you may wish to consider where you would like the wines shipped on arrival in the UK. Lea & Sandeman offers duty paid and in bond storage through a dedicated storage company called Elephant Storage. For more details on the terms and fees associated with storage please go to our Storage Homepage or contact our primeurs team for more information.

While helpful, we do not require a firm commitment on delivery destination to process your primeur order at this stage. Our team will be in contact with you when your wines arrive in the UK to confirm the necessary delivery details.
