Château Tour du Moulin is an old estate, revived in 1987 by Josette Dupuch and her son Vincent. Vincent is a highly respected consultant oenologist who is well known for working at some of the biggest name Right Bank estates. (He's too discreet to say but it is suggested he is involved at Ausone and Petrus amongst others!) This was an absolute joy and stood out in quite a long line up of options at a recent tasting. Real freshness and purity, elegant with great delivery of plum and cassis fruit, complex tobacco and tea notes. It was the finesse and supple line of this wine that really wowed us. L&S (Sept 2023)

The nose is spicy, aromatic and offers intensity as well as a certain suppleness. It reveals notes of crisp red cherry, wild blackberry and small notes of pepper associated with touches of small wild berries and spices. The palate is fruity and offers juiciness, a tangy frame, minerality, good definition, a certain gourmandize, a fine creaminess as well as accuracy. On the palate this wine expresses notes of creamy blackberry, pulpy/juicy cherry and small notes of violet associated with touches of creamy cassis as well as hints of lily, fresh blond tobacco, cherry blossoms, zan and a hint of vanilla pod. The tannins are supple. Good length. Rating: 90-91 VertdeVin.com (Mar 2023)

The 2020 Tour du Haut Moulin comes across a little introverted on the nose, but nicely defined with graphite and cedar scents that emerge. The palate is medium-bodied with a rather oaky entry, modest depth, focused though it will need 4-5 years to fully absorb the wood. Drinking range: 2026 - 2036 Rating: 88 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Feb 2023)

Château Tour du Moulin

Château Tour du Moulin is an old estate, revived in 1987 by Josette Dupuch and her son Vincent. Vincent is a highly respected consultant oenologist who is well known for working at some of the biggest name Right Bank estates. (He's too discreet to say but it is suggested he is involved at Ausone and Petrus amongst others!) He is certainly a great friend of winemaker Denis Durantou of L'Eglise Clinet fame. At his 'home' estate Vincent is passionate about restoring Fronsac to the high acclaim it historically held. Since taking over the original 1 hectare property in 1987 he has been buying up the best plots of vines that he can find and his 28 different parcels now add up to 8.5 Hectares. All on a diverse array of soil types. He likes to think that terroir is paramount and that wines are really made in the vineyards, so place is crucial and this is a brilliant site. Techniques such as severe pruning, bud thinning, leaf thinning and green harvesting are all used to maximise the quality of the fruit he's growing and the results here are electric.
