Montlandrie appears more formal, distinguished, and less wild and untamed than of late. It is clearly related to the other wines in the Durantou portfolio, yet each character is distinctly different. In this vintage, Montlandrie is reserved, thoughtful, and polished. The most remarkable aspect here is the quiet tannins, which means Montlandrie is the most forward-drinking of the four non-Pom wines. It spends one month less in barrel than the others, as it is vinified a little later, and it is superb! You will see from my score that I am mightily impressed with this beautifully elegant and magnetically civil wine. 18/20

A juicy and fresh wine that delivers some nice density from this rainy year. Good depth and structure, with a medium to full body and fine-grained tannins built into the fruit. Tight-grained and pretty long. Good tannins on the palate. 60% merlot, 20% cabernet franc and 20% cabernet sauvignon. Rating: 93-94 James Suckling, www.jamessuckling.com (Apr 2025)

Plum ruby colour, medium intensity, white pepper and cloves, gentle but insistent lift through the palate, very much on the textural side of the vintage, more austere than in recent years but still full of character and charm, no chaptilisation, 42% new oak, harvest September 26 to October 5, winemaker Noêmie Durantou. Tasted twice. Drinking range: 2026 - 2035 Rating: 91 Jane Anson, www.janeanson.com (May 2025)

The 2024 Montlandrie was picked between September 26 and October 5 and matured in 42% new oak. This has a more low-key bouquet than the Les Cruzelles with tightly wound black plum and tertiary aromas. The palate is more expressive with smooth tannins and a keen line of acidity, though it is more linear on the finish than the aforementioned Lalande-de-Pomerol. Still, this should drink well for eight to ten years. Drinking range: 2028 - 2039 Rating: 89-91 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (May 2025)

Château Montlandrie

Among the brightest stars of the exalted Pomerol appellation is Denis Durantou at Château l’Eglise-Clinet. A little further south-east, across the boundary in the Côtes de Castillon is Château Montlandrie that Denis bought in 2009. Much renovation has taken place at the 12ha vineyard that includes, almost uniquely for the Right Bank, new plantings of Cabernet Sauvignon that now make up 15% of the vineyard alongside the usual 65% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc.
