2012 1er Cru Poruzots Domaine Henri Germain
|Sub-district||Côte de Beaune|
This is a new wine in this cellar. Vines inherited from Jean-François's father-in-law François Jobard, 'a beautiful vineyard' says J-F. This is in the upper part, next to Rémi Jobard's, as one might imagine. Very much in the Germain style, Lots of tension. Seems just a touch gawky at first but then surprises by coming together for a rousing finale, depth of flavour, spice and interest and stays very well - lots of interest. L&S (Jan 2014)
*Case Price: Mix any 12 bottles of wine or 6 bottles of Champagne, Spirits or Fortified to get the 'case price' for each bottle.
(the first vintage from a .25ha parcel). There is a hint of petrol to the expressive and ripe green fruit and apricot suffused nose. There is the same fine intensity present here as with the Limozin though as would be reasonably expected this is bigger, richer and more muscular as the impressivley lingering finish displays plenty of power thanks to the abundant dry extract. 2018+ Rating: 89-92 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jun 2014)
Rating: 94 Tim Atkin MW, www.timatkin.com (Jan 2014)
Domaine Henri Germain
Jean-François Germain runs this small domaine. The Chassagne vineyards came through his mother, a Pillot, and Jean-François is married to François Jobard's daughter, so they are quite intertwined with some of our other producers. In terms of winemaking the Germains are always happy to let nature take its course, and in the vineyards they follow as natural a system of viticulture as possible. These are concentrated, tightly wound wines from one of Burgundy's coldest cellars. Slow to develop, they show wonderful crystalline purity.
