As it’s almost rosé season, plump for its delicious, savoury, herby 2019 Les Petits Diables, Côtes de Provence Rosé.’
2019 MiP* Classic Rosé Made in Provence £14.95 | £13.50 Review: ‘The delicate colour in rosé comes from the skins of red grapes. The longer the skins are left macerating with the juice, the darker the colour of the wine. If you press the grapes and allow the skins to have just a few short hours with the juice, you get pale rosé, such as MIP 2019, one of my favourite pinks from Provence via Lea & Sandeman. ‘
Review: ‘If you’re eating lamb at the weekend then a classic match is a left-bank claret. I recommend the excellent-value Château Capbern 2015 St Estephe, Bordeaux, France or Château Pibran Cru Bourgeois 2012 Bordeaux, France. If you are pushing the boat out then GPL, as it’s affectionately known, from the superb 2005 vintage is drinking beautifully – Château Grand Puy Lacoste 5ème cru classé 2005 Pauillac, Bordeaux, France. Northern Rhône syrah is also superb with lamb and I thoroughly enjoyed the smoky notes of Domaine Rémi Niero Saint Joseph Bois Prieur 2017 France. If you’re having beef rather than lamb I might be tempted towards Fuligni Brunello di Montalcino 2013 Italy – an atmospheric wine from a very good producer in a very good year, this smells of old leather, dried herbs, smoke, dust and sour cherries and feels deeply reassuring. While you are on the Lea & Sandeman website I’d also slip in a few bottles of Fattoria di Magliano Heba 2016 Morellino di Scansano, Italy – a coastal sangiovese, from a superb Tuscan vintage, that tastes of damsons and sour cherries. With such lovely weather forecast, then a few white burgundies might also be welcome. Domaine Adhémar et Francis Boudin Chablis 2018 France is beautifully limpid; I also rate Domaine Frantz Chagnoleau Les Raspillières Viré-Clessé 2018 France.’
