Dry Whites

What can we say about white Bordeaux this year that you’ve not already heard? It’s easy to think ‘well this was a cooler vintage, so it must have been good for white’, but this is an ostensible axiom in 2021. Almost all the producers we spoke, to thought the whites were going to be a failure, or at best a modest success – they weren’t spared the negative touches of frost or mildew. This could well have been the saving grace for the whites, however, as yields were (quite literally) withering. Some producers reported as low as 4hl/H.

Having these few grapes seems to have endowed the resulting wines with masses of intensity and freshness. There’s a powerful balance and they’ll need age, but with how short the 2021 stocks are going to be with white Burgundy, if you’re looking for fine, oaked white wine (at let’s face it, quite reasonable prices when stacked next to its prestigious cousin), look here.

Please note that we can source wines in any format if offered by the Château. Just indicate which size you would like in your wishlist order form or email us with a specific request. Bottling charges do apply so please see our Terms for more details.
