Médoc & Haut Médoc

There are some very good wines in the Médoc & Haut Médoc but, once again, you need to be selective. Generally speaking the northern Médoc did very well - Potensac and Clos Manou are standouts - but inland areas had more of a challenge in the summer heat. Winemaking style played a big part too. Those with a lighter touch had the best results. We thought Sénéjac and Fourcas Dupré were particular highlights.

Please note that we can source wines in any format if offered by the Château. Just indicate which size you would like in your wishlist order form or email us with a specific request. Bottling charges do apply so please see our Terms for more details.

This property has come on leaps and bounds since it became part of the Bignon-Cordier (Château Talbot) stable in 1999. It now makes some excellent value claret in a classically shaped style that's focused on freshness and drinkability. The 2018 has those qualities but it also has some extra ripeness and weight from the warmth of the vintage. There's juicy, soft red and black fruit, a creamy mid-palate, and good verve running through it all. Relatively lightly structured for a 2018, it's a very charming claret that will be hugely enjoyable in its youth and capable of lasting a decade in the cellar. I sense notes of wild plum on the nose, with a chalky freshness, the wine showing a perfumed delicacy and freshness with scents of rose petals and tobacco-leaf perfume. The palate is pure, delicately poised, very elegant and silky, with notes of crushed red plum, cinnamon, red cherry stone and a rose garden perfume, all of which is wrapped up in a central core of fresh, polished and nicely judged tannins. Bright, vigorous, acid-fresh, but also elegant and silky, this is a barrel sample with some promise. Rating: 91-93 Chris Kissack, www.thewinedoctor.com(Apr 2019)
