There is slightly less Merlot in the blend due to mildew and coulure during the season. It has a very pure nose with black cherry, wild strawberry and a touch of cracked black pepper in the background. It just misses some of the profound complexity that a top Ausone can deliver. The palate is lovely, though, one of the most velvety 2024s that I tasted out of barrel. This is very harmonious with a focused and sustained finish. Whilst it doesn't quite have the horsepower or sheer ambition of a top-drawer Ausone, this is a success for the vintage simply because it is endowed with greater substance and persistence. 43 Cabernet Franc, 43 Merlot, 14 Cabernet Sauvignon: 30% new oak: 13% alc: 42 hl/ha. Certified Organic: Harvested between 25 September and 5 October.

This is a stunningly pretty wine with none of the sourness found in some of the other famous Saint-Emilions. It is willowy, slender, silky, and diaphanous, and yet beneath these demure characteristics, there is a beautifully fresh and steely battery of epic red fruit with delicious, lip-smacking acidity. I have noted a Pinot-esque character about some of the more alluring wines in this vintage, and Canon-La-Gaff is a prime contender for most seductive of all. Do not expect an old-style warrior. In 2024, this wine is a nimble, weightless whirlwind of charm and refinement. 18.5+/20

The 2024 is classy, elegant and polished from start to finish. The most important signature of the 2024 is a palpable refinement in the tannin profile, even in a challenging vintage. This is an intriguing and highly promising wine from a château that is still finding its way. Tasted four times. Drinking range: 2026 - 2036 Rating: 90-93 Antonio Galloni, www.vinous.com (Apr 2025)

Bright and dynamic in the glass, with terrific persistence, the 2024 sizzles with tension. Crushed flowers, mint, lavender and crushed rocks open in the glass. The finesse of the tannins is impossible to miss. The 2024 is not a huge wine, but its finesse is evident. Blue/purplish fruit, slate and clean mineral overtones extend the long, sculpted finish. Our visit this year was a reminder of the epic calibre of this estate. Despite the conditions of the year - Cheval Blanc has crafted a real gem of a wine in 2024. Pretty, fragrant and delicatelyOur visit this year was a reminder of the epic calibre of this estate. Despite the conditions of the year - Cheval Blanc has crafted a real gem of a wine in 2024. Pretty, fragrant and delicately detailed with purity and refinement to the fore. Aromatic rather than emphatic in impact - it is a sheer delight to taste, sitting perfectly-sculpted across the palate with high-toned cherry flesh notes, raspberries and a gentle fresh line of coolness. A super-fine powdery structure builds in the mouth as does the fruit intensity. A huge amount of work went into creating this almost ethereal beauty - another property where we learnt about the benefits of the 'Densimetric' baths - and another tale of hugely brutal triage to bring only the best fruit to the final wine. Its a great success in light of the season they batttled. 48% Cabernet Franc, 46% Merlot and 6% Cabernet Sauvignon:L&S (Apr 2025)
