Slightly higher sand in the soil at this location in Soussans, which means it lacks a little of the concentration you find in the excellent sibling estate Ferrrière, but this shows an enticing slice of early-drinking Margaux. Following to the palateFrom the off this unleashes a charm offensive, with lots going on. Delicious and vibrant aromatics waft from the glass. There is good weight and impact on the pretty nose. Following to the palate where sweet damson and black raspberry flesh intertwine on a soft bed of round velvety tannins. This has good drive and a caressing feel. The fruit here clearly got nicely ripe - but this stops short of being rich. Just a real pleasure to taste and neatly layered. It finishes with a good line of juiciness that asks you back for more.

Ben Sichel has been transforming Angludet in recent years and they now operate completely Bio-dynamically in the vineyards. He's changed the élevage considerably too. The 2019 seems to be a great new marker for this Margaux stalwart. Recommended for the cellar.

Merlot 43%, Cabernet Sauvignon 45% & Petit Verdot 12%. Half of this is aged in Oak (a third new) and the other half is aged in amphora. Harvest started with the Merlot on the 17th of September and ended with the Cabernet one month later on the 17th of October.

Over the years we have got used to tasting here and know the great potential of these vineyards and the team.

Grippy and good structure, but also fabulous fruit. Dark and firm, yet not baked - and there is a gorgeous freshness and lift of juicy acidity. Lots of slate and lead - and crunchy leaf too, some mint or eucalyptus as well. Nice spice and classic cedar wood waft. This is intense, quite concentrated for now and yet ripe in the middle. Full of potential. This has all the bones it needs for a very happy future. Good grunt for Margaux - but bags of dark charm too.

40% new oak, 40% once-used barrels and 20% amphora.

There is a lot going on aromatically with high-toned black cherries intermingling with incense, kirsch and desiccated orange peel aromas. Fortunately it manages to maintain both focus and delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins that lend this Saint-Émilion a corpulence that belies the structure that becomes tangible on the light grippy, quite spicy finish. This is a very well crafted Fonplégade, less ostentatious than previous vintages and all the better for it. Drinking range: 2024 - 2042 Rating: 92-94 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com(Jun 2020)

An intense middle, tightly wrapped with lots of citrus bite up front - broadens across the palate. Yellow grapefruit, pith and peel all there and a tasty salinity pervades. Young for now and not overtly expressive - but certainly impressive and with great potential. Will need some time though. Olivier explained to us that this will spend a long stretch in oak, as they like the natural filtration and settling that takes place over the second winter.L&S(Jun 2020)

In the mouth, things are velvet in texture and packed with concentrated cassis puree and blackberry fruit, gentle spice, soft charcoal and sappy tannins, with the whole thing just slowly slowly expanding and building through the palate, tightening its grip as it reaches the close of play. The Palmer signature of energy and precision is here in spades, and altogether the wine is both measured and elegant, with textbook floral Margaux character, while being extremely juicy, creamy and enjoyable, with a mouthwatering salinity on the finish - up there with the very best vintages of this estate. Low SO2, as has been the case for a few years now in line with biodynamic principles. Back to normal yield this year of (a very welcome I would imagine) 45hl/ha. Harvest September 19 to October 19. 60% new oak, likely to be in barrels for the first year then large sized oak casks for the second year. 55% of overall production in the 1st wine.
