2024 CHÂTEAU LE PIN Pomerol

Rich100 M 13% Plenty of bright ripe purple fruit with chalky clay and the terroir of Pomerol. Some liquorice and herbs with fresh red, black and blue fruit flavours of cherry and quetsche. Rich silky palate with pure poised red fruit. Palate-coating and with milk chocolate texture and depth. But it is the vibrancy of the fruit which shines through, as with L'If, this will be approachable in relative youth, but has the elegance and structure to endure. Exceptional performance in the vintage. Rating: 96 Rod Smith MW, www.timatkin.com (Apr 2025)

Silky tannins add to an impressionThe 2024 Vieux Château Certan is a delicate, elegant wine driven by its strong floral component from the significant presence of Cabernets in the blend this year. Silky tannins add to an impression of restraint. I can't remember tasting a young VCC with this equilibrium, one that approaches a Burgundian textural feel, for lack of a better word. The 2024 opens with a bit of time in the glass, but it is a decidedly understated, calm VCC. I can't wait to see how it ages. Black fruit, espresso, licorice, cloves and mocha confer an impression of gravitas. Élevage is 50% new oak, 25% foudre, 8% amphora and the rest in once-used barrels. Something about the oak profile does not feel optimal, as if the oak is mismatched to the wine. Élevage will be critical here, as the 2024 is quite forbidding at this stage. Even so, this is strong showing in a challenging year for a vineyard with relatively young vines that was largely replanted between 2002 and 2010. 2024 CHÂTEAU CLINET Pomerol
Release date: 3/6/2025

There is nothing hot or spicy about this extraordinarily sleek and elegant wine. With decent yields (43 hl/ha across the property and 38 hl/ha for the Grand Vin 38), Clinet has hit the jackpot of both a healthy and top-quality crop. With Pomerol’s average around the 33 hl/ha mark and many producers far below this, it is no surprise that Ronan and Monique are smiling. They picked a little later, but quicker than many here and then, as was the norm in 2024, sorted vigorously to eliminate any substandard fruit. The result is a wine with tremendous beauty and potential. It is hard to move beyond the perfume, which is simply stunning. “Neo-classical” is a lazy descriptor, but if you are familiar with the great vintages of this wine and give this template a gleaming polish and a sense of optimism, this is how I would describe 2024 Clinet to a fan. Some Clinet vintages appear to have one block of impressive flavour that gradually breaks down and organises itself over the years, but in 2024, there is considerable complexity from the start. While the aroma and palate are gloriously plummy and floral, there is thrilling acidity, which brings a sense of tension and a refreshing stance to the finish. It appears to carry out a magical flourish of feeling succulent and alluring while also engendering a dramatic and commanding set of tannins. This is one of the finest young Clinets I have ever tasted because intricate detail and lip-smacking lusciousness are in perfect harmony. Rating: 19+/20 Matthew Jukes www.matthewjukes.com (Jun 2025)

Dark and layered, with very good textural presence, the 2024 possesses notable depth. Black-toned fruit, leather, spice, gravel, incense and licorice convey an impression of somber gravitas. Some saignée in vinification as well as bâtonnage helped build attractive texture. As has been the case for some years now, the tannins are quite a bit less imposing here than they were in the past. Élevage, 65% new oak and 35% once-used barrels, will play a critical in determining the final result. Harvest started on September 18 for the Merlots and wrapped up on the 28th. Stunningly elegant, bright and enticing on the nose, this is a fantastic wine that always over-delivers. Superb, honed, refined and super-long, this wine plays a fabulous game, and it is always epic value for money, too. The mid-palate is where the action is with super-smooth lines and purple, red and black highlights, braided together perfectly. Be patient because the tannins are crisp and alert; before too long, you will be the proud owner of a stunning creation. 17.5+/20 QP Rating: 17.5 QP Matthew Jukes www.matthewjukes.com (May 2025)
